ONSTAR WITH 4G LTE BASICS
If you rely on streaming music or navigation on the go, or having internet is key to maintaining peace in your car on long road trips, the available OnStar with 4G LTE® and built-in Wi-Fi Hotspot on your new Chevrolet will certainly come in handy. But now that you have it, how do you use it?Â
GETTING SERVICE
When you buy your new Chevrolet, there is a lot of new tech that you might need to get used to. To help you experience internet connectivity on the go without choosing a plan, new vehicles equipped with OnStar with 4G LTE® and Wi-Fi Hotspot come with the first three months or 3GB of data (whichever comes first) free of charge.Â
Â
After the introductory period, you can then choose the data plan that works best for you and your family. If you already have an available OnStar plan like Remote Access or Connected Access, you can add a data plan to activate the OnStar with 4G LTE® in your vehicle. On the other hand, you can simply sign up for the Unlimited Access Plan for internet access as well as Turn-by-Turn Navigation® and support from an OnStar Advisor.Â
Â
For more information about plans and pricing, log in to your GM Owner Center or push your blue OnStar button to talk to an Advisor.Â
CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET
Now that you have access to the internet, you need to know how to connect to it. Your OnStar with 4G LTE® and Wi-Fi Hotspot can handle up to seven devices, which means that you can connect not just your phone but also a passenger's tablet or e-reader.Â
Â
From the main menu of your Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, scroll down to select "Wi-Fi Settings." Once you select it, your display should show your vehicle's SSID, or network name, as well as the password. On your Wi-Fi device, select the network name that matches your car and enter the password on the screen. From there, you should be ready to access the internet.Â
Â
The OnStar with 4G LTE® and built-in Wi-Fi Hotspot system in your new car is a great way to stay connected on the go without blowing your cell phone's data plan. Keep in mind on your road trips that some areas don't have the coverage to offer 4G LTE speeds, so you may have slower internet speeds or interruptions. It's not an issue with your car's system, and once you re-enter an area with better coverage, your connection should improve.Â
